Hasnah and Shakeel started stained glass as a hobby in the back of their house, where they created vripus chimes, small sun catcher in 1999. Soon the small room at the back on their home was not enough, they shifted their glass work to a place of its own and began doing larger pieces for commercial purposes. They started Rainbow Stained Glass in 2001 and haven’t looked back since. They are members of International Guild of Glass Artists, while Shakeel is a life member and has held the post of the Secretary there.
Their glass works range from small sun catchers, colourful chimes to large windows and all stained glass doors. Their work adorns houses from Singapore to Perlis. Their work is shown and sold through several galleries. They make pieces that are one of a kind and prefer to do commissioned pieces. None of their work is repeated to keep the integrity of art. They have done Victorian style windows, works in the style of Louise Comfort Tiffany. Their best works have been abstracts doors and windows. Their lampshades are particularly well liked.
They are currently the only genuine Stained Glass artists in Malaysia. They still maintain the old style work ethics, and every piece of glass is carefully selected, hand cut, and copper foiled and brought together in what becomes a lasting art piece. They also work in lead came method for larger pieces but still prefer the copper foil method due to the intricacy that it affords them.
They welcome anyone who wants to visit their studio, please call for appointment.
Shakeel has also been keenly involved in hot glass works, making some bowls and platters. His kiln work ranges from bowls, platters to wall pieces that cover the entire wall. Hot glass pieces made from recycled glass has earned him praise and repute.
Due to constant enquiries and demand, they started selling stained glass supplies to hobbyists and home crafters in Malaysia. They maintain a good variety of glass from Spectrum Glass Company and Armstrong Glass. They also sell copper foil on various denominations, cutting tools, running pliers, grozing pliers etc.
